Countdown: My Favorite TV Writers' Blogs

Okay, it's July. TV is entering its sleepytime phase and there's not all that much to ~~blog about~~ watch. Here's a little extracurricular reading for anyone who's bored: my favorite writers' blogs from some of my favorite shows. Writers' blogs are great because you get to find out the back story behind what you actually see and, sometimes, some gentle spoilers about what's to come. These five blogs are consistently entertaining and well-written, so check 'em out. Some of them are on hiatus for the summer, obviously, but that doesn't matter if they're new to you, right?

1. Grey Matter: Shonda Rhimes and company dish on all things "Grey's Anatomy." This blog is funny and at the same time completely honest about the show. If you want to see what's on tap for season five, look no further.

2. SNL Backstage: Penned by Fred Armisen - OK, not a writer, I know - this blog is a great mix of insidery stuff about "SNL" and funny observations. There are photos, too!

3. Burn Notice: Long, dishy posts about what goes into an episode of the show. "Burn Notice" is back tonight, so we can expect this blog to get updated soon.

4. My Boys: Brendan Smith, self-described "lowly writer," does this one. It's consistently funny. I especially loved the entry about how hard the show tried to get a "real athlete" to play PJ's antiquing ex-baseballer.

5. Barney's Blog: OK, this is a character blog, not a writers' blog. However, when I asked Neil Patrick Harris about it he told me that the writers' assistants come up with all this great stuff on their own. Hey, CBS! I think there are some people over at "How I Met Your Mother" who need raises and promotions!

Your Funny Valentine

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and we all know that a box of chocolate from the drugstore is trying waaaay too hard. Besides, it's a lot of effort. Not too much effort? An e-card, specifically, a TV themed e-card.

ABC.com has a selection of cards from "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," and "Ugly Betty." They're pretty earnest, but not mushy exactly. Sort of like the ones you gave out in sixth grade.

NBC.com went in a different direction - American Gladiators! Justice, Mayhem, Venom, and the rest of the gladiators are representing with inspired greetings like "Ahwooo! I'm hungry like the Wolf for your love. Be My Valentine!"

Viral Video of the Day

Unless you were a Gap Girl, or worked at the Banana (Republic, that is), chances are that your method of folding shirts doesn't regularly result in a stack of nice, neat garments that look like they belong on a shelf in, well, The Gap or Banana Republic. So, check out today's Viral Video of the Day, in which a woman spends about 20 seconds and a couple of swift movements to display a folding technique that's fit for a tee.
