'Sanctuary' to Get Second Season
Dear Sci Fi:
I have initially liked all your original series at first. "The Dresden Files" was awesome. "Flash Gordon" was pretty good. "Painkiller Jane" had potential.
And then came "Sanctuary." From Amanda Tapping having a random British accent to its nerdy (and not in a good way) male lead to the been-there-done-that premise of a group of people looking into strange mutants and helping them, the show had little to recommend it. Sure, I guess it's cool that you do a lot of stuff with nifty CGI, but a half-decent series needs to have more going for it than technical wizardry.
"Sanctuary" was the first Sci Fi series I took an instant dislike to. I even kept it on my TiVo in case I was just crabby the day I watched the pilot or something. And the episode or two I've watched since still were pretty bad. So I was sure it was going to go the way of those much better series that were cancelled.
So I'm begging you: please don't get any ideas from the show's mystifyingly good initial ratings. Don't force-feed us "Sanctuary: The Next Generation" or think that you can just put whatever story on in front of a green screen and it'll all be good in the end.
P.S. I'll be watching "Estate of Panic" and "Cha$e" later today, but I can't say I've got my hopes up.
