Parvarti Doesn't Have to Worry about Poverty

That's because last night, she won "Survivor" on a 5-3 vote. I talked with her earlier today. [If you're interested to hear what Cirie and Amanda had to say, check out the links to Reality TV World]

Here's Parvarti:

MSN: Parvarti, congratulations on being the Sole Survivor. You must be very excited.

Parvarti: I am! It's very exciting.

MSN: So what do you think was the biggest key to your victory?

Parvarti: Well, I think it was just a lot of things snowballing on top of each other. I mean, forming the women's alliance was a huge, pivotal point in the game for me. And putting myself right in the middle of it was a big power play. And then of course voting Ozzy out, who was the biggest threat in the game.

MSN: Now it seems to me that you got basically the vote of every female on the jury and then one other, like Jason's or something. Is that how it worked out?

Parvarti: I guess girls like me after all.

MSN: Why do you think it worked out that way?

Parvarti: I think because I made the guys mad. Ozzy and James were really upset and I don't think Erik liked me very much. I think the girls actually respected what I did. Bringing the women together was a big deal to them too.

MSN: And there seemed to be a lot of hostility toward Amanda from them. Why do you think that was?

Parvarti: I think they didn't really believe Amanda, because she always would get very emotional at Tribal Council and I think they thought it was a show. When we went with the Immunity Idol, she went around moping, looking sad and teary-eyed. I think the jury thought she was putting on an act and they didn't like it.

MSN: On paper, it seemed like given the choice between the nice one and the mean manipulative one, the jury would go with the nice one. Why didn't that happen?

Parvarti: Amanda was also manipulative too. [Laughs] She didn't outright stab anyone in the back, but she was extremely manipulative. What she did with Erik was very crafty. That girl was playing the game. Don't let her fool you with her little doe eyes and her cute little smile. She was good.  She's slick. I think the jury just respected the fact that I own up to my game and I was straightforward about it. I said, "OK, this is how I play it and I'm not going to apologize for it." I knew I had to play aggressively or I would have gotten voted out.

MSN: Now do you think Amanda made a mistake by bringing you along instead of Cirie?

Parvarti: No, honestly, I think she really had a better shot beating me than beating Cirie.

MSN: Why is that?

Parvarti: Because Cirie is really good at convincing people and making people believe what she's saying. Cirie also has a leg up because she's got a family. She's a mom. She can pull on heartstrings and Amanda and I were on an even playing field.

MSN: What would you say was your best move of the game?

Parvarti: Every move really led into another move. But I would probably say forming that women's alliance, bringing that group of girls together allowed us to make some big, bold moves and have some crazy things happen.

MSN: How did you manage to change your game up from your first time in Cook until now?

Parvarti: I knew I couldn't play the same game because it didn't work the first time. So I had to learn from my mistakes. ... I was going to have to take some big risks to get some big payoffs. So that's what I did.

MSN: One of the things that surprised me at the final Tribal is Natalie was saying that you were flirting with her somewhat. When were you doing that and how well do you think it worked?

Parvarti: Natalie and I are dating now. Just kidding. I don't know. Everyone just thinks I'm flirting when I'm talking with them, mostly because I'm friendly. ... I don't know when I was flirting with her. Probably all the time.

MSN: So now that you've won the million dollars, what are you going to do with it?

Parvarti: I'm going to take a boat down the Nile River in Egypt.

MSN: Why that?

Parvarti: I've always wanted to do that. I love Egypt.

MSN: And do you think you're going to continue on in social work?

Parvarti: Yeah, I am, absolutely. I work with a boxing charity called Knockouts for Girls, and we provide scholarships and boxing equipment to individuals. ... We shot a new calendar, so we're having a release party for that in June, which is really cool, building an awareness for it.

MSN: What advice would you give to people who are thinking about trying out for "Survivor"?

Parvarti: I would say get ready to hone that killer instinct. Trust your gut. And when you make a decision, commit to it 100 percent. Don't waffle, because if you waver, you'll get voted out.

MSN: Are you ever going to be able to patch up your relationships with Ozzy and James?

Parvarti: James and I are fine.

MSN: And how about Ozzy?

Parvarti: I think Ozzy's over it. ...  I think Ozzy's fine now. Ozzy's a mature guy. He realizes it's a game and it's not a nice game. People get hurt. I was playing to win.

MSN: How did it feel to arrange for the first all-female Final Four?

Parvarti: I think it was really awesome. I was glad we were able to pull it off. We couldn't have done it alone. It took every single one of those girls to make it happen. I think it was great. It was a historical moment for the ladies.

MSN: What, in retrospect, was your opinion of the Fans versus Favorites dynamic?

Parvarti: I think it was a really cool concept.

MSN: Did the Fans actually have a chance, though?

Parvarti: The Fans had a great chance in the beginning. We didn't know who they were, so they had an advantage in a way. They could be whoever they wanted. Having the experience of having been through it once immediately gave the Favorites an advantage over the Fans. You can't have tunnel vision when you're playing "Survivor." You have to be running scenarios all the time, and I don't think the Fans always got that.
