April 15 A Tribute To TV's AccountantsIt seemed fitting that on Tax Day we take a look at some of TV's greatest accountants. Trouble is, the small screen's kinda shafted CPAs. There just weren't that many of them that I could come up with off the top of my head. But I salute them regardless, to various degrees.
Norm Peterson from "Cheers": Yes, Norm had a life beyond drinking suds, putting up with Cliff and cracking jokes. We didn't really actually get to see him as an accountant per se, but kudos for him breaking the stereotype of accountants as mindless, unfunny drones. That said, I wouldn't let the guy come within a mile of my tax return. I don't know about you, but when it comes to my finances, I'd rather have the boring, focused guy than someone who's cool, social and has more interesting things in his life than numbers.
Henry Grubstick from "Ugly Betty": He's chivalrous, cute, smart, dedicated and nerdy. For those who might want to go the shady route with their taxes, though, watch out. He also has a ton of integrity that would require him to rat you out, I think.
Angela, Kevin and Oscar from "The Office": OK, Kevin is clearly dead weight. Angela and Oscar are both, from all appearances, very good at what they do. But I don't know if I could deal with Angela's personality quirks or being left out of the Finer Things Club.
Marvin from "Entourage": You don't get to be a business manager to one of the hottest Hollywood stars without knowing a little about what you're doing. But without a Vincent Chase-like salary, could any of us actually afford Marvin?
That's about all I could think of off the top of my head. Anyone else got any favorite accountants?
