Long Live the Legion!
Last night's "Smallville" was one of the ones that actually seemed quite good. Comic book writer Geoff Johns stepped up to deliver a tale of when Clark crossed path with the time-travelling heroes of the future, the Legion of Superheroes. And if you could take the episode in and of itself, it was pretty cool.
You'd have to discount the notion that in the 31st century, Lana Lang would be famous for some unspecified destiny, of course. Or how Clark acted in this episode (rightfully stressing the Superman code of no killing ever) is completely inconsistent with how he has been acting for most of the previous seasons of "Smallville," when he would casually throw people 30 feet with no regard for their safety and when he would be the cause of death, directly or indirectly, of dozens of Kryptonite freaks.
But the people who guest-starred as Lightning Lad, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl were all passable in their parts. (And for Alexz Johnson, "passable" means that she was practically the second coming of Audrey Hepburn, given some of the awful female guest-stars "Smallville" has featured over the years.) And the fact that they took the scrap of Brainiac and talked about making Brainiac 5 suggests to me that the CW would love to make a "Legion" series.
I'd like to see it happen, although part of me wonders if they'd be willing to foot the bill for the necessary special effects. Then again, maybe they can do a lot of stuff a la "Sanctuary," with green screens and computer graphics.
Any thoughts on whether you'd like to see a "Legion" spin-off? After all, it would have to be better than "Aquaman" and "The Graysons," both shows that the C-dub talked about before they fizzled, right?
