Big Ol' 'Supernatural' Spoiler (and a Bonus, Smaller Spoiler)
Kristin from E! Online has posted her weekly dose of spoilers, including two about one of my favorite shows, "Supernatural." Quit now if you don't want the details.
According to her, the possibility exists that demon-fighting brothers Dean and Sammy...might have another sibling out there that neither knows about.
That is a huge, huge game-changing plot twist, in my book. Even as the show has been about putting down assorted threats that go bump in the night, it's been about the relationship between Dean and Sam, and their relationship with their absentee/now-dead father John. For there to have been another brother (even if from another mother) will undoubtedly and fundamentally the way the two look at each other and at their dad.
More to the point for us viewers, it seems like it would change the chemistry of the show. Unfortunately, not necessarily in a good way. I fundamentally trust the powers that be at "Supernatural" more than I do people from most other shows. But I'm at a loss to think of how the show would satisfactorily incorporate -- even for a story arc or some occasional appearances -- another Winchester.
Then there's the believability factor. I'll buy shapeshifters, witches, ghosts and vampires. But somehow it seems too incredible that John Winchester had some kid that a) he never told Sam and Dean about b) he never told Bobby or others about c) he never wrote about in his journals and d) who never emerged in the past exploits of the Winchesters, which included deaths for Sam, Dean and John along with all manners of other potential problems.
Still, it would seem that if the show goes that route, we're likely to get another dose of Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the show, which is unambiguouslya welcome development.
As for the bonus spoiler, Kristin reports that Alistair, the demon who tortured and groomed Dean in Hell and caused major chaos earlier this season, will be back later this season to wreak more havoc, albeit with another actor. Here's hoping they get someone equally capable of pulling off his sinister streak.
