    Hollywood Divided Over Potential Actors' Strike

    ActorDann_James_51911352_400 Well, just in time for Christmas I bring you a tale of woe from La-La Land. As you may be aware, the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) and the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) haven't been able to come to terms for a new contract. What does this mean? It means there could be another TV strike.

    According to union rules, SAG's 110,000 members must vote to authorize their executive board to consider a strike. At least 75% of current members have to say yes, so there's a whole lot of high-profile politicking going on. Variety has a nice breakdown:

    Who's yelling "Strike, strike, strike?"

    "SAG has attracted public support for the authorization via a solidarity statement on its website from 2,300 members including Laura Dern, Mel Gibson, Hal Holbrook, Holly Hunter, Matthew Madine, Sandra Oh and Charlie Sheen's father, Martin Sheen. Guild leaders have accused the congloms of using the economic downturn to intimidate actors away from seeking a fair share of new-media revenues as content migrates to new digital platforms."

    OK, so who's on the other side?

    "Over the weekend, opponents added John and Ann Cusack, Jeff Garlin, George Lopez, Virginia Madsen, Susan Sarandon and Charlie Sheen to the roster of stars urging a no vote. As of Sunday afternoon, 1,373 members had endorsed the No SAG Strike petition, written three weeks ago by Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman."

    This could get ugly fast! I think the only solution is a standard Hollywood-issue bring 'em all together Christmas movie.

    Ballots go out to SAG members on January 2, but we won't know the official results of the vote until January 24.
