'Medium:' And Then?
Last night's episode of "Medium" was incredible; it was one of the best episodes to date. It was also incredibly dark. The mystery of the week was one of the saddest we've ever seen on the show, and it was made worse by the fact that Allison could do nothing to help. The Dubois family has certainly fallen on hard times, as have Manuel Devalos and Lee Scanlon. I thought the whole Sound of Music subplot really underlined how tense things have become for the characters. Cutting from silly, happy songs like "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "My Favorite Things" to scenes from a kidnapping, indignities at the unemployment office, and Joe asking his mom for money? Brilliant!
I'm curious to see the direction the show takes from now on. Obviously there was no magic wand at the end of last night's episode: Joe and Allison are jobless and Devalos is still "on leave." For all we know, neither Allison nor Manny will return to the D.A.'s office. The preview for next week's show had Allison working for Manny Devalos...in private practice. Somehow I don't think that's the job for justice-obsessed Allison (or Devalos, for that matter). Still, if Allison can't make nice with the new D.A. or the Phoenix P.D., she could take to investigating crimes independently: Anjelica Huston's P.I. character is coming back, after all.
What did you guys think of last night's show?
