Random happenings in TV land today …
- No worries if you don't want to shell out big bucks for a Police reunion concert this summer. Sting and the fellas are going to tape an "MTV Unplugged" set in Miami in July.
- USA Today has the first pic of the new Mach 5, the car that will be the co-star of "Matrix" brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski's "Speed Racer" movie, a live-action re-do of the animated TV series. And yes, the car is very, very cool.
- The news continues to be bad for Katie Couric; her "CBS Evening News" broadcast just set a new record … for her lowest ratings ever on the show.
- Will this Sunday's "Sopranos" ep, the penultimate installment, reveal Tony's ultimate fate? Lots of critics, including the New York Post's Michael Starr, seem to feel whatever (if anything) is going to happen to the big guy, it will be in this episode, as opposed to in the June 10 series finale.
- ABC has announced season DVD box sets for "Lost," "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate Housewives" and "Ugly Betty," and the cool sets will include bonus goodies like unaired storylines, deleted scenes, a race track visit with Patrick Dempsey for the "GA" collection and, on the "Lost" discs, a documentary that tracks a 24-hour production cycle of the show. Good stuff!
- The "Entourage" gang is at it again, running real trade paper ads for fake, show-within-the-show Johnny Drama drama "Five Towns."
- And "The Office" star Jenna Fisher is using cupcakes and "Larry Sanders" DVDs to get through the pain of that awful back injury she suffered earlier this month in New York.
