February 23 I Wasn't the Only One Up Late Last NightI'm pretty tired from staying up late watching the Oscars last night. Kate Winslet! Sean Penn! Slumdog! If you happened to miss the show we've got some pretty awesome coverage right here. I'm eager to hear what you guys thought about last night's broadcast. And now for more coffee. - Posted by Kate January 26 The Not-So-Shocking SAG Award Winners
Hugh Laurie won Best Actor in a Drama for "House." Shocking, eh? Hey, I'm not complaining. Best Actress? Sally Field racked up another award for "Brothers and Sisters" Alec Baldwin won Best Actor in a Comedy and Tina Fey won Best Actress. The cast of "Mad Men" won Best Drama Ensemble and "30 Rock" took Best Comedy Ensemble. Oh, and the miniseries category! Paul Giammati and Laura Linney won Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for their work in John Adams. - Posted by Kate January 12 Golden Globes, The Morning After
Kudos to HBO's John Adams miniseries, "30 Rock," the entire slightly daffy cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire and, of course, double award winner Kate Winslet. Maybe everybody in Hollywood should take advice on their roles from Ricky Gervais! If you missed the show, check out our minute-by-minute coverage. - Posted by Kate September 04 Britney to 'Perform' (Appear?) at the VMAs Variety says that Britney Spears will open the 2008 Video Music Awards...but she won't be singing or dancing or even making out with Madonna: August 22 How I Met Your Lighting Director
Kathy Griffin made her infamous "Suck it, Jesus" speech there, and the cast of "The Office" made quite a splash too. Now Sarah Chalke and Neil Patrick Harris have been tapped to host this year's festivities. August 15 The Emmys Are Getting More 'Real'
"To make things interesting, the category's first five nominees - Tom Bergeron of 'Dancing with the Stars,' 'Survivor's' Jeff Probst' 'Project Runway's' Heidi Klum,' 'Deal or No Deal's' Howie Mandel and 'American Idol's' Ryan Seacrest - will host the awards show itself." I have mixed feelings about this idea. On the one hand, of course reality TV show hosts deserve recognition. On the other hand, anything that helps reality TV gain even more of a stranglehold over network programming makes me cranky. - Posted by Kate August 14 Wolfgang Puck Won’t Watch Your Cooking Show Unless You’re Dead
- Posted by Kate August 11 Let's Go to the Mall! Tonight at nine you can catch MTV's made-for-TV musical "The American Mall." The movie was made by the producers of "High School Musical" and it's pretty much exactly like "High School Musical," except it's, you know, set in a mall. August 04 Tonight: 'Teen Choice Awards'
So what should you expect? Well, Miley Cyrus is hosting. Shia LeBoeuf, Rachel Bilson, David Cook, Channing Tatum, David Archuleta, Lil Mama, LL Cool J, Demi Lovato, James Marsden, Katherine McPhee, Leighton Meester, Jordan Sparks, Sophia Bush, Josh Holloway, Ryan Sheckler, Steve Carell, Chris Brown, Scarlett Johansson, Zac Efron, Pink, Danica Patrick, Selena Gomez, JoJo, Minka Kelly, Jesse McCartney, Chad Michael Murray, Chace Crawford, Kristen Bell, Drake Bell, Mischa Barton, Brittany Snow, and Hayden Panettiere will all be putting in appearances. Miley Cyrus and Mariah Carey will both perform. Oh, and there's also going to be some kind of dance-off. (I had no idea the kids were into this stuff these days. I feel old.) The winners have been announced, but I don't want to spoil the broadcast for you guys. July 24 Yes, I'm Looking Forward to Shark WeekSummer. How do you sum up summer? Strawberry season, raspberry season, tomato season. Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Shark Week, Labor Day. I'm not the only one who sees Shark Week as one of the big summer milestones, am I? Well it's coming! Shark Week starts on Sunday! Shark Week 2008 looks like it'll be the best yet. There are six new programs, not to mention all of our old favorites. I'm pretty excited about the two-hour "Mythbusters" shark special that airs Sunday night at 9:00. On Monday there's "Day of the Shark," which takes a look at six recent shark attacks. Eep. We'll get a "Dirty Jobs" shark special, too, on Tuesday night at 9:00. After that there's "How Not to Become Shark Bait." Apparently the Discovery Channel actually found someone willing to test out popular theories about what attracts sharks. Discovery.com is getting in the game with a special Shark Week site. Try the Sharkrunners game, trust me. - Posted by Kate July 17 Tonight: VH1 Pays Tribute to 'The Who'VH1 held a special concert honoring The Who last weekend at UCLA, and tonight they're broadcasting it for everyone to see. Performers include Pearl Jam, The Foo Fighters, Tenacious D, The Flaming Lips and Incubus...and The Who, of course. Do you want to know who's playing the Pinball Wizard? It's not Elton John. Give up? How about Rainn Wilson! You know that's going to be amazing. "VH1's Rock Honors Bash: The Who" airs tonight at 9:00. - Posted by Kate July 03 Fireworks and 'That 70s Show'
If you're interested in fireworks, NBC has the Macy's 4th of July fireworks show at 9:00. Natalie Morales and Tiki Barber will host and Natasha Bedingfield, Gavin DeGraw and Kenny Chesney will perform along with Katharine McPhee and Jordan Sparks of "American Idol." Early birds might want to check out PBS' "A Capital Fourth" at 8:00. They've got fireworks and Tchaikovsky on tap. Jimmy Smits will host and Huey Lewis and the News, Jerry Lee Lewis and Taylor Hicks will perform. If you're not so interested in fireworks there's still plenty to see. AMC is showing all of the Jaws films. ABC Family has a "That 70s Show" marathon. FX has a "King of the Hill" marathon. For anyone feeling extra patriotic, HBOe is showing the John Adams miniseries in its entirety starting at 1:00 pm. Want more TV marathons? Check out this list over at Interesting Pile. - Posted by Kate June 27 'The Wire' Gets Some Emmy Love...KindaFor some reason the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences decided to "leak" the top ten contenders in two major Emmy categories yesterday. Their gain, our gain? Anyway, one of my favorite shows, "The Wire," finally scored a mention! Here's the complete list for Best Comedy and Best Drama categories. Remember, this isn't a list of the nominees, just the semifinalists, so to speak: Top 10 Comedy Series Finalists "Curb Your Enthusiasm" "Entourage" "Family Guy" "Flight of the Conchords" "The Office" "Pushing Daisies" "30 Rock" "Two and a Half Men" "Ugly Betty" "Weeds" Top 10 Drama Series Finalists "Boston Legal" "Damages" "Dexter" "Friday Night Lights" "Grey’s Anatomy" "House" "Lost" "Mad Men" "The Tudors" "The Wire" - Posted by Kate June 26 We Like Shows About Fake Doctors, So How About Real Ones?Tonight ABC is airing the first installment of "Hopkins," a six-part documentary shot on location at Baltimore's Johns Hopkins hospital. We'll meet doctors and patients and see what real drama lurks within the hospital's corridors. The crew was given almost full access to all areas in the hospital, so this could be fascinating. Or depressing. Or scary. (Says the girl who still holds her hand over her face during the surgery scenes of "Grey's Anatomy.") The documentary focuses on the doctors' and patients' personal lives as well as their professional ones, so don't expect it to be all crash carts and CAT scans. "Hopkins" airs tonight at 10:00 on ABC. - Posted by Kate June 25 Remembering George Carlin
Legendary producer Lorne Michaels had this to say: "You never forget the people who were there at the beginning. George Carlin helped give 'Saturday Night Live' its start as our first host. He was gracious, fearless, and most important of all, funny." HBO is also paying tribute to Carlin by airing some of his comedy specials tonight and tomorrow night. I especially like "Playing with Your Head," but you'll have to stay up awfully late if you want to watch it. It's worth it, though, I promise. Here's the complete schedule: Tonight: Tomorrow: - Posted by Kate June 24 Tonight: 'The BET Awards'Tonight The BET Awards are being broadcast live from Los Angeles. The very funny D.L. Hughley will host. Everybody who's anybody will perform - Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Al Green and the list goes on. You can find out who's nominated here and get an online ballot for your BET party here. The show starts at 8:00 on BET. - Posted by Kate June 18 'Top Chef' Reunion: Who Will Be the Fan Favorite?
Who do you guys think it will be? In other "Top Chef" news, Grub Street says that season five will take place in New York City: "Given how aggressive the bloggers were in Chicago (they scoped out the chefs with telescopic lenses), we can only imagine what will happen when New York’s blogging corps gets a beachhead." I'm getting my "Veronica Mars"-style spy kit all ready to go. - Posted by Kate Shocker! Teens Love 'Gossip Girl'The CW might still be fretting over ratings, but they should feel good today. "Gossip Girl" has received a mind-blowing 14 Teen Choice Award nominations for its freshman season. Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley are up against each other in the Best Actor category - that could get interesting. Miley Cyrus will host the show. She's up for four awards herself, so it could be a very interesting night. The awards will be broadcast on Fox on August 5, so you've got plenty of time left to vote, teen readers. - Posted by Kate June 17 A Night at the Movies
AFI's "10 Top 10" starts at 8:00 on CBS. - Posted by Kate June 12 A Double Dose of Kathy Griffin
Right after the season premiere of "My Life on the D-List" you can catch Bravo's first ever A-List Awards. What's the idea there? Well, as best I can tell Bravo decided to host an awards ceremony for...all of their own shows. It probably won't be the most legitimate awards show ever, but it should be fun. Kathy will be hosting. - Posted by Kate |
